This one question has been a game-changer for me. I use it often, and it continues to shift things — always for the better!
“Why is it so easy?”
At first glance, it almost sounds naïve — especially when life feels anything but easy. But this simple question creates a powerful mindset shift. It’s not about denying a difficult situation or pretending everything is fine. It’s about gently guiding your brain and nervous system into a calmer state — one where things can actually become easier!
Why We Brace for Difficulty
When I’m facing something challenging — a health appointment, a tough conversation, a deadline, a new beginning — I can feel my body preparing for impact.
Maybe you know the feeling.
The thoughts start rolling in:
- This is going to be hard.
- What if I mess this up?
- I don’t feel ready.
Our brains are wired for survival. They automatically scan for danger. But that protective instinct can create stress, tension, and self-doubt before we’ve even started.
And that stress makes everything feel heavier than it needs to be.
The Power of Asking a Question
Instead of forcing a statement like “This is easy” — which your mind might resist — try asking a question instead.
The brain loves questions. It immediately starts searching for answers.
When I ask, “Why is it so easy?” my mind often begins offering supportive evidence:
- Because I’ve handled things like this before.
- Because I can take it one step at a time.
- Because I don’t have to do it perfectly.
- Because maybe… I’m more prepared than I think.
Suddenly, like magic, my attention shifts from fear to possibility.

How This Calms Your Nervous System
This small shift moves you out of threat mode and into solution mode.
Your shoulders relax. Your breathing deepens, and the mental chatter quiets.
When resistance drops, clarity increases. When stress decreases, solutions surface more naturally. Instead of bracing, you’re more open.
And openness changes outcomes.
You Don’t Have to Believe It for It to Work
One of my favorite things about this tool is that you don’t even have to fully believe it!
You don’t have to insist the task will be easy. You don’t have to fake positivity.
You just have to allow the possibility.
Sometimes, if something feels overwhelming, I ask the question and then mentally hand it over to the universe to manage — while staying open to evidence that it unfolds smoothly. That detachment alone reduces resistance and creates calm.
This Isn’t About Pretending Life Is Easy
This isn’t about bypassing real challenges.
It’s about changing your relationship to them.
When I ask this before a difficult conversation, my energy shifts. I’m less tense and more curious. And people respond differently to that energy. The entire interaction is calmer because I’m no longer bracing.
Often, what makes something easier isn’t the circumstance — it’s the mindset we bring to it.
